Strolling About

Forest Trail

Man made a mistake, m'thinks,
when he first cut a trail through the trees.
What possible event made 'being there'
more important than 'here and now' --
slow wandering a timeless natural path
amongst the trees that embraced the forest
as a community?

'course, letting the trees be your guide
will always lead to meeting a stranger --
a minstrel perhaps or gypsy or monk;
while that dusty rut so straight and true
can only lead to something known
and experienced before,
and death.

And I - the wild way through the wood always led to the most beautiful places.

The face of an old bushman who took me on treasure hunts in the Australian bush just came back and smiled faucon. He never marked trails on the ground but hid the treasures, a few of which sit near my computer, in fairy postboxes. Sigh! I did so love the Arches and Archie Hair. He taught us all about magic and boxes of wonderment.
